The Fischer novel was originally published in hard covers by Doubleday in 1944 under the title Quoth the Raven. The first paperback edition was digest size and published by Lawrence E. Spivak/ American Mercury Mysteries. Both that and this edition are abridged from the original text. The Colton cover has a one inch crease at the top corner and another three inch surface crease at the bottom. The text block protrudes a little at the right side. Otherwise only light edge rubbing to the covers. Browning to the page edges. The first page of the Colton novel has a small number stamped on it and a small edge chip. The pages are browned but otherwise unmarked. The cover illustration for the Fischer novel is by Norman Saunders. First printing.
