Moderate toning to front and rear free endpapers with lighter toning/foxing to pastedowns; past owner's signatures/inscriptions in antiquarian ink on front free endpaper, front flyleaf, frontis recto, and rear free endpaper; some other mostly light foxing to interior pages. Binding is firm. B/w frontispiece illustration signed "C Sch." which is possibly Christian Schussele (1824-1879). Small unsigned b/w tailpiece vignette illustration on page 71. OCLC cites copies held by only nine member libraries. Google Books turns up a citation from "The Mothers' Journal, and Family Visitant" Volume XIX, 1854 summarizing this uncommon American Sunday-School Union imprint as "A narrative of facts, showing the blighting effect upon the happiness of individuals whose destinies for life are united, when their desires and hopes for eternity are divided.".
