Original Wraps. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Three panel folded letter on rag paper stock: approx. 8 4/16 " x 19 14/16." w/ addressed cover, folded approx. 6 1/4 " x 8 " attached to a 7 3/4" x 10 14/16 " sheet. Slt. damp-stain to upper rgt. cor. of 1st. panel. Written in ink, on first panel fold and the two reverse folds w/ address and red wax remnant on fourth fold. The letter is an order for some merchandise to be shipped by sloop to Kinderhook, NY with a request for an advance of money to cover the purchase from Mr. Cruger. The rest of the letter details. some of the purchases in a personable manner. Peter van Schaack (1714-1832) was a prominent New York attorney and legal scholar who supported the American Revolution at its inception, but became a Loyalist, went into exile in 1778. He returned to New York in 1785 and became an American citizen and resided in his former home in Columbia County, NY. He established a school for law students in his home.
