Condition: Very Good. 2nd Edition. The expanded second English language edition of Johannes Schefferus' 'Lapponia'.First published in Latin in 1673. A folio first English language edition followed in 1674. Full speckled calf leather binding. Rebacked with original spine laid over, corners of boards restored. Spine with five raised bands, red morocco title label, gilt ornament to compartments. A few small marks and light stains to text but overall a nice clean example. Creasing and a small tear to upper corner of final leaf. Lacking the plate at page 340 (modern reproduction is loosely inserted), otherwise complete, with the fold-out frontis title, fold-out map, fold-out illustration of a drum at page 134 & plate at page 144 plus several illustrations within the text. Cet ouvrage issu d'une commande royal, est l'un des plus anciens apports sur la recherche héraldique concernant le blason de l'ancien royaume de Suède et de ses origines. Il fut à l'origine d'in conflit entre le Dannemark et la Suède à propos du droit d'utiliser les trois couronnes dans les armoiries du royaume. A grand renforts d'exemples tirés de documents anciens, monnaies, sceaux, et éléments divers, Scheffer tente de prouver l'antériorité de l'usage héraldique des trois couronnes par les souverains suédois.
