The species in this book belong to three separate families within the prosobran…ch gastropod group. The book includes original macroscopic descriptions and the first histological descriptions of the species, Mucronalia szwiegelae and Sti/ifer sz°à ogae, which are new to science. The histological descriptions include images taken with a scanning electron microscope. The author positions the species within their ecological and evolutionary contexts. One chapter examines the external and internal anatomical similarities and differences within the three families represented by the six species under study. The unique characteristics of parasitic adaptations, such as mouth shape and foot structure are highlighted. Another chapter examines the reproductive organs of the species and discusses the implications of hermaphroditism for parasitic gastropods. The author concludes by summarizing the key findings and their significance. This book presents valuable new information for malacologists.
