Naturkunde, historische Darstellungen etc. Der zweite - poetische - Teil, enthält Lyrik vornehmlich vom ausgehenden 18. Jahrhundert bis zu zeitgenössis…chen Texten: Hölderlin, Kerner, Uhland, Chamisso, Hebel, Matthison und auch von Thomas Scherr selbst. Daneben sind noch Auszüge aus Schillers "Wilhelm Tell", dem Nibelungelied u. der Aeneis enthalten. Zusammengestellt sind die Bände von dem bedeutenden Schweizer Pädagogen Ignaz Thomas Scherr (1801-1870), der sich besonders um die Reformierung des Volksschulwesens und um die Taubstummenbildung verdient gemacht hat. Eigentlich auf Lebenszeit zum Direktor des Lehrerseminars in Küsnacht gewählt, war er als Opfer von Intrigen der konservativen Geistlichkeit Zürichs dennoch entlassen worden. Er verließ den Kanton und ging in den Thurgau, wo er in (Kreuzlingen-)Emmishofen das Gut Obere Hochstrasse erwarb (mit dieser Adresse ist auch das Vorwort unterschrieben). Von dort aus gründete er eine private Taubstummenschule in Winterthur. Über mehrere Jahre war er auch Präsident des Erziehungsrats des Kantons Thurgau. - Durchgängig teils stärker stock- und auch fingerfleckig, rechte untere Ecke des 2. Teils etw. wasserrandig.
