Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. This lovely little book is a collection of 48 black-and-white photographs of the magnificent, late medieval, Gothic wood sculpture (The Bordesholmer Altar) created by Hans Brüggemann for the altar in Schleswig Cathedral (circa 1521), depicting Christ's Passion, which was thought to have been inspired by works of Albrecht Dürer. The accompanying text in the book is entirely in German. Published in Weisbaden, Germany in 1958, this is Insel - Bucherei # 495. As with all the books in this series, the cover has been given a delightful decorative pattern. We are lucky that this particular copy had, inserted within its covers, a small promotional catalog list from Insel-Verlag for the summer of 1958. There is also a handsome bookmark from a bookshop in Tübingen : "Osiandersche Buchhandlung" Both of these have been kept with the book. The 48 photographs were all printed on calendered paper. The book is now Out of Print - OP.
