Original silver gelatin photo documenting the post-World War I growth and importance of…the Lower Columbia Cooperative Dairy Association, founded originally in 1922 by Schmand (1868-1947), and drawing from membership in and around Astoria, OR, and Grays River, WA across the Columbia River. Architect John Wicks designed the joint structures featuring a two-story building with business in the basement street level, with office space above. Building in the photo fore-ground here has now been raized and is a parking lot. See: Astoria's Historic Resources and Heritage (2006).
