500 copies, 4to, (282x197mm), 70p. with an additional loosely inserted 4 page English preface and translation of the captions of the photographs. 21 heliograph photographic plates by Fr. Lahaye. Full red morocco with an ornamental device based on the city's crest tooled in gilt in the centre of the front cover within a two-line blind border, backstrip very lightly faded. Bound by Pie Schmitz of Maastricht for presentation to Sir Paul Mason. Handsomely printed in red, blue and black in Jan van Krimpen's Lutetia typeface and so well designed and laid-out that one suspects the master's hand, however one page with a full-length initial letter owes much to the Dove's Press Bible and one cannot escape the feeling that such an influence would not have appealed to van Krimpen. A handsome presentation copy, specially bound by one of The Netherlands' finest bookbinders of the period, for presentation to the English Ambassador to the country. The colophon leaf records the presentation with the number (24) printed in blue, and the recipient and date (9 mei 1956) printed at the end of the colophon. HEAVY BOOK please note that this title weighs more than the 1 kg packed average on which postage charges are based and we may request additonal postage. Overseas customers are advised to email us through the 'Ask the bookseller a question' option for delivery options and charges.
