Condition: Fair. 1907. No Edition Remarks. 169 pages. No dust jacket. Blue illustrated cloth boards with lettering. Contains colour illustrations. Clean pages and illustrations with noticeable tanning and foxing throughout. More pronounced to free endpapers and pastedowns. Pen inscriptions to reverse frontispiece. Top textblock edge dyed gilt. Binding remains firm. Boards have mild edge wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Moderate sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Minor splits to spine ends and corners causing cloth to be frayed. Lettering is darkened. Visible wear marks to boards.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Miniature book, 3.25x3, is bound in blue cloth with black, red and white decoration of a man "riding" on a hippo. The boards are worn to threads at the corners, some decoration worn off, general wear with soiling. Pencil name on inside cover, binding is loose and delicate. 79 pages, pages between illustrations are not printed on. All orders packed with care, most dust jackets protected by Brodart sleeve, independent bookseller since 2011.

Small slim 12mo size. *The only edition produced of this scarce "Dumpy Book".

Pictorial front board. A couple of small niks to the head and tail of the spine with some assocaited rubbing. A little soiling to the rear board and spine. One corner is lightly bumped and there is slight turning in of one corner of the board. A little spine lean. A couple of pencil names and addresses to the front end paper. Light splitting to the front inner hinge, though the front board is firmly attached. Light foxing to the fore edges and half title page. The pages are otherwise clean and tight. A very good copy.

In a gutta-percha, or caoutchouc binding with a yap edge to front board. This is an early form of adhesive binding. All leaves are detached as is normally the case, but the book has been collated and is complete. In a cloth covered caoutchouc binding. Externally, sound with splitting to joints. Internally, all leaves are detached as is usual for this type of binding. Collated complete. Generally bright with the odd small spot and mark. Very Good. book.

Old neat inscription across top of front pastedown and endpaper, weakly crossed out (see image), otherwise a near Fine clean bright copy of this quite uncommon Dumpy book. This was the last in the series, No. 40 in list of 40, commissioned by Grant Richards but published by Chatto and Windus after Richards' bankruptcy in 1904.
