Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents 675 ocean depth measurements collected during expeditions to the western Pacific Ocean from 1903 to 1905. The author sought to understand submarine geography and collected data on the seafloor using sounding rods and sounding machines. The soundings were made along a network of lines connecting the islands of Shanghai, Yap, Guam, Palau, and Menado, in waters up to 4000 fathoms (7315 meters) deep. The data is presented in the form of 255 depth charts, 8 detailed maps of the seafloor around the islands, and 5 general bathymetric maps which depict the depth of the seafloor at various points. With 145 measurements taken below 1829 meters, this book provides valuable insights into the depth and topography of the western Pacific Ocean, making it a valuable resource for oceanographers and historians interested in the development of bathymetric charting. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
