Im Juli 1944 kam er zum Reicharbeitsdienst nach Lüdden an die polnische Grenze. Im Oktober 1944 wurde er in die Wehrmacht eingezogen und kam an die Ostfront nach Schlesien. Bei einem sowjetischen Angriff erblindete er durch Granatsplitter und wurde gefangengenommen, konnte aber mit Hilfe eines lettischen Mithäftlings flüchten und nach Luxemburg zurückkehren. Nach dem Krieg arbeitete er beim Zollamt. 1964 gründete er das Blindenwohn- und Ferienheim in Berschbach/Mersch, dem er von 1965 bis 1984 als Direktor vorstand. Er war Präsident der Luxemburgischen Blindenvereinigung und schrieb Beiträge für einige Jahrbücher dieser Vereinigung. Opfer in Feldgrau schildert Leo Schullers Erlebnisse als zwangsrekrutierter Soldat in Ostpreußen und Polen. Der Text war zuerst 1948 im Tageblatt erschienen".
