Die ungewohnlichen biologischen Ei…genschaf ten und die therapeutische Wirksamkeit dieser Derivate erweckten das Interesse von experimentellen und klinischen Forschern. Besonders E toposid (VP 16-213) erschien wegen seiner niedrigen und vorhersagba ren Toxizitat vielversprechend fiir einen klinischen Einsatz. Tatsachlich zeigten die bisherigen Erfahrungen, daB das Praparat eine besondere Aktivitat bei bestimmten Formen akuter Leukamien, bei Non Hodgkin-Lymphomen, bei Lungenkarzinomen und Hodentumoren entfaltet. - Urn einen Dberblick iiber den derzeitigen Stellenwert von VP16-213 zu gewinnen, wurden auf Anregung der I. Medizinischen Universitatsklinik Wien und in Zusammenarbeit mit der Osterreichi schen Krebsgesellschaft und -Liga Arbeitsgruppen aus Osterreich, Deutschland, Holland und der Schweiz eingeladen, ihre bisherigen Er fahrungen mit Etoposid auszutauschen und zu diskutieren. Ein zweita giges Symposium in Baden bot dazu Gelegenheit. Das Resultat der ge me ins amen Bemiihungen ist in diesem Band zusammengefafk Neben den Beitragen der einzelnen Autoren ist am Ende des jeweiligen Hauptkapitels der wesentliche Inhalt der Diskussionsbeitrage wiederge geben.
