Add to basketPaperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. In the aftermath of the First World War, this book chronicles the negotiation process behind the Franco-Soviet Pact of 1935. This alliance pivoted on the shared fears of Nazi Germany's aggressive expansionism, a concern that led to the Soviet Union turning to France for support. The author argues that the pact was born out of necessity rather than ideological kinship. It emerged from a convergence of interests between two nations driven together by fear and a desire for security. The mistrust that had defined Franco-Soviet relations since 1917 dissipated in the face of a common threat. This book offers a rich historical account, shedding light on the complex diplomatic maneuvers and the interplay of domestic politics that shaped this crucial alliance. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
