Durante il soggiorno a Padova Scroffa dovette conoscere, direttamente o indirettamente, Pietro Fidenzio Giunteo da Montagnana, il Ğludimagistroğ satireggiato nei Cantici: Ğun letterato di vaglia, che datosi per mestiere all?insegnare, aveva in Padova scuola di grammatica, stipendiato dal pubblico consuetamente, e dai discepoli per lezioni fuori del debito suo [.].Da tale predilezione, oltre che dalla mania latineggiante di Giunteo, Scroffa trasse intorno al 1550 il malizioso spunto iniziale dei suoi Cantici di Fidenzio, esile canzoniere formato da una ventina di componimenti, in maggioranza sonetti, ma anche una sestina, due capitoli in terza rima di circa duecento versi ciascuno e il seguente epitaffio: ĞGlottocrisio Fidentio eruditissimo / ludimagistro è in questo gran sarcophago. / Camillo crudo più d?un antropophago / l?uccise. O caso ai buoni damnosissimo!ğ Nei Cantici di Fidenzio, come più tardi nel Candelaio (ma nella commedia di Giordano Bruno si accentuò la vis polemica), la satira della pedanteria si unisce a quella del petrarchismo. Fidenzio Ğgeme la sua passione come un messer Francesco Petrarca che sia passato attraverso lo stile del Polifiloğ (Croce, 1931, p. 79), rivolgendosi però non a una donna, ma a un suo giovane discepolo; ne risulta un trasgressivo declassamento dell?oggetto letterario, atto di per sé a generare il ridicolo. Lo stesso abnorme latineggiamento che caratterizza il discorso poetico si risolve talora nella degradazione di una realtà figurata e spirituale al mero senso fisico: il verso d?esordio del Canzoniere petrarchesco, Voi ch?ascoltate in rime sparse il suono, diviene per esempio Voi ch?auribus arrectis auscultate, cioè ?ascoltate con le orecchie tese.
