DJ has heavy wear but is held together well by some interior tape: front and back of DJ held together by interior tape on spine; DJ has rips and chips along edges; DJ has chunks missing around corners and top/bottom of spine; DJ has large rips that are taped in place on interior side; DJ chipping and peeling along fore edges. Hardcover board corners bumped and curled inwards, with fabric ripped and/or fraying at corners; some minor bumping on bottom edges; some fraying of fabric on top edge; minor ripping in fabric on top/bottom of spine; fabric darkened/toned, and sunned on edges; boards have a bit of a concave warp to them. Front hinge a tad bit tender, but very robust/sound, back hinge tight. Binding good and sound. Edges of text block have some minor bumps/dings. Previous owner sticker on ffep. Erased name written in pencil on title page. Semi-circular damp stain on center of bottom edge of pages 69-115. Page edges lightly toned. Otherwise, pages appear clean and clear of writing, markings and highlighting.

The septuagenarian vicar of Twitten has gone and done it. He has married a chorus girl, and he is returning unrepentant but panting to the vicarage. Meanwhile, his daughter, who has something on her mind but it's apparently not her father's unfortunate marriage, disappears. Most unusually, the chorus girl turns out to live up, or down, to the typical chorus-girl reputation. Deaths start occurring. A demented but chuckling villain appears at night. The heroine is brave and bright. The hero is dull and sensible. Inspector Bass drinks too much at the village pub and at the Twitten Manor Home for Inebriates, joining the home's owner, Dr. MacFarlane, who always has a bottle handy, while the murderer remains unapprehended. A thriller-type novel with a twist and some interesting characters. George Selmark is a pseudonym of Seldon Truss. Truss wrote only one novel under this name with a detective that Truss had written about under his own name. EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.
