Paperback. Condition: Like new. Like new softcover in printed wraps. 8vo. (5.5 x 0.44 x 8.5 inches) Clean text free of marks or underlining. Includes text, translation, notes and an index. 208 pp. Fast shipping in a secure book box mailer with tracking. L. Annaeus Seneca, the elder (his son was the philosopher), lived c. 55?? - AD 40. His history of his own times from the outbreak of the civil war is sadly lost. What does survive are parts of his Oratorum sententiae, divisiones, colores - a collection of extracts from declaimers whom he heard during his lifetime, interspersed with his own digressions and comments. There were ten books of Controversiae, five surviving, and at least two of suasoriae, of which one remains. Edward's edition of the latter, first published in 1928, remains the only annotated edition in English and the only one (since 1909) in any European language; it has long been unavailable and has never before appeared in paperback. It provides both text and facing translation, full annotation and a useful introductory essay, which offers trenchant correction of earlier suggestions that Seneca was no more than a professional hack teacher of rhetoric, and that his Latinity is inferior and unclassical. The edition will be most useful to scholars and students concerned with ancient rhetoric and with Augustan developments in classical Latin.

Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. The Oil Press: Where Pressure Produces Power What if your crushing wasn't the end-but the beginning? In The Oil Press, Senaca J. Baines delivers a powerful, Spirit-filled journey that redefines how we view pressure, pain, and purpose. With a blend of biblical wisdom, real-life testimony, and prophetic insight, this book reveals that the anointing doesn't come from ease-it comes from the press. Each chapter uncovers how God uses life's most painful and perplexing seasons-betrayal, obscurity, loss, rejection, and brokenness-to release divine oil that empowers, transforms, and sustains. From Gethsemane to modern-day ministry, from the cave to the courtroom, Baines invites readers to see adversity through Heaven's lens and to embrace the oil that flows from obedience under pressure. You'll walk with figures like Joseph, Moses, Abigail, Peter, and Elijah-and see reflections of your own story in theirs. You'll be challenged to surrender, stand, and step into the calling that crushing prepares you for.Whether you're in a season of stretching or on the edge of a breakthrough, The Oil Press will help you: Understand the spiritual purpose behind your pressureRecognize the oil already at work in your lifeWalk boldly in your identity despite oppositionEmbrace holiness, not hustle, as your path to impactLeave a lasting legacy forged in fire, not fame This is more than encouragement-it's a charge.
