The first 6 volumes of this renown publication of all the wild flowers in The Netherlands in 19th century. Next to the beautiful botanical illustrations, each flower with a detailed description both in Dutch as in French, with the generic name in Latin, Dutch, French, German and English. In the description all the charecteristics of the plant, it's habitat and (medical) use. First edition is dated 1800. The whole series consists of 28 volumes. The first editor was Jan Kops, Dutch botanist and agriculutarist, professor of botany at Utrecht University. As from volume 5 till 10 Jan Kops was assisted by the Dutch botanist Herman Christiaan van Hall and others. Interior in very good condition, crisp and bright illustrations.6 identical half leather bindings in good condition, only some light damage at the spines. Volume VI with a spine that is loose at the right side. Volume III has some wear on the spine in the leather and volume I has some leather loose on the top. No leather is missing so it can easily be restored by a bookbinder.Provenance: Pasted in Ex libris of J.J.M. Taudin Chabot, being a descendant of one of the first subscriber (full list of subscribers of this work in instalments in volume I) Willem Rendorp from Amsterdam. He subscribed for this quarto edition around 1800. By inheretance the book went from Willem Rendorp to Jan van Reenen, Jacob van Reenen, Hendrik van Reenen and then to J.J.M. Taudin Chabot who married Augusta van Reenen in 1941.[NL] Botanisch topstuk dat tussen 1800 en 1934 verscheen in 28 delen. Dit zijn de complete eerste 6 delen. Het is de eerste catalogus van wilde flora in Nederland (Batava). Uitgever Jan Christiaan Sepp (1739-1811) en Landbouwcommissaris Jan Kops (1765-1849) initieerde deze uitgave. Prachtige kwaliteit, handgekleurde gravures van diverse planten als de koekoeksbloem (lychnis Flos cuculi), sleutelbloem (Anagallis arrensis), dophei (Erica tetralix), kruipend zenegroen (ajuga reptans), klein hoefblad (Tussilago farfara),etc. In de tekst uitleg over gebruik en nut, vaak medicinaal.Dit exemplaar is altijd in de familie geweest van intekenaar Willem Rendorp in Amsterdam en via vererving terecht gekomen bij J.J.M. Taudin Chabot waarvan de ex libris in het boek is geplakt. Jonkheer Willem Rendorp, vrijheer van Marquette (1769-1827) was wethouder en raad in Amsterdam en lid van de Grote Vergadering van Notabelen. Zijn dochter Wilhelmina Rendorp (1796-1856) huwde in 1854 met Jan van Reenen (Bergen NH). Hun zoon Jacob van Reenen was burgemeester van Bergen NH en huwde Marie A.D. Van Reenen - Völter. Zij was een zeer ondernemende vrouw en stichtte de badplaats Bergen aan Zee. Zij woonden in het patriciërshuis Villa Kranenburgh te Bergen (nu Museum Kranenburgh, Nieuw Kranenburg gewijd aan schilders van de Bergense School). Via het huwelijk van kleindochter Augusta Mariette van Reenen (opleiding tuinbouwschool Huis te Lande Rijswijk 1938) zijn de boeken bij J.J.M. Taudin Chabot gekomen. Zijn ex libris zit in de boeken. Jan Joseph Marie Taudin Chabot is in 1911 in Rotterdam geboren en was ingenieur bij Philips. Hij overleed in 2001.Bij het boek zit een brief van maart 1975 van Dr. W.D. Margadant aan J.J.M. Taudin Chardot (sic) te Eindhoven. Daarin uitleg over de verschijningsdata van Flora Batava (na deel 10 is de oplaag kleiner geworden). Uitleg over de vindplaatsen van beschrijvingen van paddestoelen in de serie. Verder uitleg over publicaties van oude rozen. Verwijzing naar de heer Segal die een studie heeft gemaakt van planten op 17e eeuwse schilderijen. Tevens 5 bladzijden met manuscript aantekeningen over de diverse platen in de serie met de vaak geneeskundige werking.
