The book was written by order of the Supreme Monarchical Council, covering the period from 1894 to 1917, from the time when Emperor Nicholas II ascended the throne to his abdication in February, 1917. About 70 rare photos of the Emperor, the Royal family, portraits, maps on separate sheets. This research was sourced from the original records in the archives of the Russian Embassy in Paris. Sergey Sergeyevich Oldenburg was the son of the prominent Orientalist, Academician S. F. Oldenburg. A member of the White Movement, he lived abroad since 1920, and supported the political views of Peter Struve. Oldenburg was one of the leading authors in the right-wing emigre press including the magazine Russkaya Mysl (Russian Thought), Vozrozhdenie (Renaissance), Rossiya (Russia), Rossiya I Slavianstvo (Russia and Slavdom) newspapers. In the mid 1920s, the Supreme Monarchical Council requested that Professor S. S. Oldenburg, who lived in Paris, write a historical study on the period of reign of Emperor Nicholas II. The opportunity allowed S. S. Oldenburg to conduct this scientific research, examining copies of the original records in the Russian Embassy in Paris on Grenelle street. That work resulted in Sergey Sergeyevich Oldenburg writing the most objective study about the life and the ruling of Nicholas II, who bore the burden of the last decisions in the Russian Empire . Being a member of the White movement and among the first wave of Russian èmigrès, S. S. Oldenburg knew firsthand about the historical upheavals that Russia experienced in the reign of Nicholas II and about the consequences of his abdication. In his work the author used unique materials, including duplicates of historical acts stored in the Russian Embassy in Paris. Fragile and faded paper, tears, torn off cover corners. Good (-) condition.
