Le baron de Sers expose ici sa version de l'affaire Oster, sur lequel l'article s'appuyait, et qu'il avait vécu de près en sa qualité de préfet de la Moselle. Le pasteur Oster était un protestant luthérien à Metz, qui s'était donné pour mission de convertir les Juifs au Luthéranisme. Dans ce but il distribuait des brochures, organisait des réunions chez lui ou militait auprès des étudiants, ce qui était interdit et qui lui valut les démêlés avec la justice à l'origine de l'article.
