No Binding. Condition: Very Good. Original etching by Carlo Servolini, 8/40 edition signed by the artist. 38 x 52 cm, in very good condition. Carlo Servolini ( Livorno , 5 April 1876 Collesalvetti , 12 September 1948 ) was an Italian painter . Born to a humble family, he studied first at the School of Arts and Crafts in Livorno , under the guidance of Lorenzo Cecchi and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence . He then becomes a drawing teacher in technical institutes. At the same time he had the opportunity to frequent the artistic-cultural environments of Livorno, in particular the Caffè Bardi , where he came into contact with the ideas of the Catholic Rosicrucian of Joséphin Péladan imported into the city by the Belgian engraver Charles Doudelet . The attention that Servolini directs to humanity is detailed in a series of paintings such as the "Nocturnes", or those that immortalize the most disturbing aspects of war conflicts. His post-Macchiaioli naturalism is therefore first and foremost a mirror of the painful condition in which man finds himself struggling. It was only in the 1930s that Carlo Servolini entered the most important artistic circuits, both nationally and internationally. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 1936 , 1940 and 1942 , and in the Rome Quadrennial in 1935 , 1939 and 1943 . He then exhibited successfully at important English and American events. He also practiced the art of engraving effectively, also inspiring his son, Luigi Servolini who would soon become a master of it.
