Die 1790 erschienene Schrift 'Geschichte des deutschen Adels', worin die ausschließliche Ueberlassung der geistlichen Pfründen an Mitglieder des Adels lebhaft bekämpft wird, erregten ob ihrer freimüthigen Sprache aufsehen, aber trotzdem oder gerade deshalb wurde er 1790 ins geheime Cabinet des Fürstbischofs berufen.".
