Hardback. Condition: New. Yahgulanaas, Michael Nicoll (illustrator). "A magnificent journey alongside orcas, bringing these beautiful creatures to life." -Jay Ritchlin, David Suzuki FoundationSpirits of the Coast brings together the work of marine biologists, Indigenous knowledge keepers, poets, artists, and storytellers, united by their enchantment with the orca. Long feared in settler cultures as "killer whales," and respected and honored by Indigenous cultures as friends, family, or benefactors, orcas are complex social beings with culture and language of their own. With contributors ranging from Briony Penn to David Suzuki, Gary Geddes and Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, this collection brings together diverse voices, young and old, to explore the magic, myths, and ecology of orcas. A richly illustrated literary and visual journey through past and possibility, Spirits of the Coast illustrates how these enigmatic animals have shaped us as much as our actions have impacted them, and provokes the reader to imagine the shape of our shared future.

Ian Serraillier (1912-1994) was an English novelist and poet. He is probably best known for his children's books, and his re-telling of legends from England, Greece and Rome. In 1948, he and his wife, Anne Margaret Rogers, founded the New Windmill Series for Heinemann Educational Books, to provide inexpensive editions of worthwhile fiction, travel and biography for older readers. This volume in the series is divided into the following four parts, each containing narrative verse together with background notes: Beowulf the Warrior; Three Tales from Folklore; The Ballad of kon-Tiki; and Everest Climbed. The book is bound in the original blue boards with white titling on the spine and front board and an illustration on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear to the boards and slight fading to the spine. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription.

Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - The Gambardier: the Experiences of a Battery of Heavy Artillery on the Western Front During the First World WarThe First World War with the big gunsGambardier is a title-not completely complimentary-for a heavy or siege artilleryman. It was bestowed most usually by his comrade (but rival) of the field artillery. This is the story of a young officer-a Gambardier-from the outbreak of the Great War to its end on the Western Front. In this compelling and unusual book, we experience life on campaign, the tension and danger of Observation Posts (O. Ps), the brutality of counter barrages from the enemy-the German artillery, and the humour and incident of life amongst a small group of men thrown together in adversity. The big guns themselves are the real characters of this book, and the author provides a fascinating and compelling detail about their various types, their rate of fire, their ammunition, transportation and maintenance.
