Some slight edge wear to top and bottom of jacket and spine, spine sunned, corners very slightly bruised, slight lean. Not price clipped (£6.95), no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 414pp. A saga of the Carlyon family, founders of Murranji Station in the Australian Outback. A sweeping novel of both the benefits and the harmful effects of the encroaching civilization they helped to establish in the wilderness. The pen name 'Maxwell Grant' was a pseudonym used by the authors of 'The Shadow' pulp magazine stories and for the novels they also wrote on the Australian outback. Street & Smith the publishers, asked Walter B. Gibson, a writer hired to chronicle the Shadow's adventures, to create a pen name for the Shadow's author for several reasons, primarily so that numerous authors could be used to write the stories without confusing the readers. Gibson, who was also a nonfiction writer, wanted to use a pen name for his fiction. He adopted the pen name Maxwell Grant, taking the name from two magic dealers he knew, Maxwell Holden and U.F. Magazine. Condition: Fine (as new) copy. First edition. Vol V1 no 1 (August 1995). Thunder Shadow started out purely as a new and o/p book catalogue (with maybe some articles and other pieces? I don't know I haven't seen them) but for it's final four issues it expanded (in both look and contents) to include substantial pieces of fiction as well, starting with Vol 1V no 1, +iction and art (with no pages of books for sale), and printed on better glossy paper. Then as so often the case, the magazine promptly folded. So it goes. This issue contains an excerpt from the novel Two-Bear Mambo by Joe R.
