Add to basketCirca 1890, printed in Holland, 6 panel concertina panorama, each panel 150 x 75 mm, 5¾ x 3 inches, each shaped around the roof of the house, thin card colour printed 1 side, text on the other. Very pretty images: the dolls' house with dolls sitting in the garden; the dolls having their hair done by their little mistress; she pushes 4 of them in a pram for their morning drive; she feeds them at table; the dolls in a circle on the floor listen to their lessons; their little mistress rocks them in their cradle. Each image has 4 4-line verses describing the activity on the reverse. On text side there are signs that this little item has been removed from a scrap album as there are a few small grazes and a few letters missing, all 5 folds have been repaired with sellotape on text side (not browned). Spine has been repaired with old rice paper tape as are the hinges, some modest shelfwear, pages lightly age-toned but clean, no names or other markings. Soft Cover. Fair. Oblong 12mo.

Spine worn and repaired, lower edge of lower cover chipped, maximum 20 mm deep, (¾") no loss of text (image 5), all inner margins have been repaired, many small marginal tears repaired, 1 closed tear 50 mm (2") long running into image, repaired without loss, a small amount of adhesion to centre fold of double page plate with a tiny amount of colour restoration, some light browning to inner margins, margins a little dusty and an occasional small mark. A well loved book with restoration but still an acceptable copy of an uncommon ephemeral item. A few tiny surface chips to shaped edges (max 2 mm, 1/8" deep), small pencil inscription on lower cover. Excellent condition for a large fragile item. Near Fine. Not a modern reproduction. Add to basketHumphrey Milford. Large Children's Boat Shaped Board Book. First edition. No wrapper issued (or possible!) Slight splitting to paper covered spine but sound. Small colour pieces missing from top of sail. Title page and following few pages foxed otherwise a lovely copy of a scarce item. Chloe Preston, 1887-1969, was a children's author and artist of books and postcards. She is best known for her cute, cherubic children in adult guise and situations. Unlike the later US edition this volume has HMS Chunky on the sailors' hats on the cover as well as the illustrations within.
