Mais nonobstant le mérite de leurs ouvrages, il y a lieu de croire qu'on peut faire encore de nouvelles découvertes je m'estimerai fort heureux, s'il paroît par ces Recherches, que j?ai fait quelque choie qui puisse contribuer à perfectionner un art dont l?avancement est d'une si grande importance pour le bonheur du genre humain". Samuel Sharp (1700-1778) commença ses études de médecine avec Cheselden, avant de venir se perfectionner à Paris. Il fut l'un des plus grands chirurgiens britanniques de son temps, et célèbre pour son Traité sur les opérations de chirurgie, publié en 1739, la première étude britannique axée exclusivement sur les techniques opératoires. Bords frottés, petites griffures sur les plats, coiffes et coins émoussés. Taches brunes en marge (mouillure) sur quelques cahiers, de rares rousseurs. Dans l'ensemble, pages propres.
