Hardcover. Condition: Good. From the collection of A. C. Scott, one of the foremost pioneers in the study and practice of Asian theater in the West. Known for his translations, interpretations and direction of the kabuki, jinju and bunraku forms of performance, Scott's work helped both preserve and expand the underlying artistic principles for Western audiences, particularly through his program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. (Asian Theatre Journal 28:2). This bound lot of four issues bears Scott's signature on the front end page or table of contents page of each issue. Asahi Shimbun-sha, 1954-1955; no additional printings indicated in any issue. Many illustrated plates, several in color. Bound in tan buckram with gilt titling on back strip. Binding is tight, sturdy, and square; minor wear, light foxing/dust smudging to edges of boards, gilt titling dulled but clearly legible; text, illustrations very good throughout; bookbinder tag (Johnny K.C. Co., Hong Kong) on front paste-down. Due to the size/weight of this book extra charges will apply for international and/or expedited shipping.
