Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. Forget Me Not; A Christmas and New Year's Present For 1826, Published by R. Ackerman, London, 1826, 386 pp plus publisher's list, hardcover with original sleeve, 6 x 4", 18mo. In fair condition. Original sleeve is typically worn along edges with minor scuffing and light wear, more moderate…wear at bottom edges. Paper is soiled, green glossed titles are scuffed but remain bright. Remains relatively sturdy. Front board detached. Binding shaken will need minor repairs if handled frequently. Light wear to extremities with scuffing to surface. "To Miss Mary B. Gray from Mrs. Helen H. Patterson on dedication page. Light offsetting from plate. Tissue guards lightly toned, foxed but all intact. All edges gilt. Light toning to text with minor foxing. Free of markings. Generally good, but quite fragile. Please see photos. The Forget Me Not for 1823 was the first such annual published in England. "Mr. Ackerman was the father and originator in England of those elegant bijouteries of the festive season, the Annuals, which was a spirited attempt to rival the numerous publications issued in France and Germany. It is well known that his successful attempt to furnish in the Forget Me Not, a worthy offering to an object of kindness and affection, has generated in this country a new class of elegant works." (Timperly, Dictionary of Printers and Printing, 1839) With contributions by Marys Russell Mitford, W.H. Harrison, and John Browning. Includes thirteen engraved plates after Heath, Finden and others.
