First volume lacks free front end-paper but following blank leaf present, with previous early ownership details. On the front pastedown of each volume the label from a later owner. Titles lettered in ink onto spines, and the author's name name across the the fore-edges. Spine and corners of first volume neatly repaired. The second volume a little rubbed and worn with minor worm damage to fore-edge margin and lower margin towards the end of the volume. The occasional mark but contents generally nice and clean. From the historic law library of Maurice E. Locke (1861-1919) of Dallas, TX. Locke, a bibliophile in addition to his trade, established his practice in 1891 and built up one of the largest privately owned law libraries west of the Mississippi during the early decades of 20th century. Locke was an original trustee of the Dallas Public Library, serving as president of the board from 1910-1919 and was instrumental in the building of the Oak Cliff Library, securing funds from Andrew Carnegie. Oak Cliff which opened in 1914, later became the first branch of the Dallas Public Library.
