Some rippling to the cloth and soil to the boards. Front hinge is split but holding by the spine mull. Lacks front free endpaper. Previous owner's name and address on front pastedown and rear free endpapers. Inside page have occasional soil to their margins. One colour plate is missing. A few plates are detached and laid in. Bird stories for children, issued with sixteen plates (eight in colour) but one colour plate is missing.

    1890. (4to) Very good in near fine dust jacket. Bound in rose cloth and yellow india silk with a stunning design in gilt and colors, and in a near fine rose cloth covered dust jacket. Textured gilt patterned endpapers, all edges gilt, printed one-side on heavy coated stock (excepting a few preliminary pages), 18 poems with artistic borders and 15 chromolithographs. The front inner hinge has been repaired, one tissueguard is wrinkled and has a corner tear, the bottom corner of the front cover has a small bump and the cloth dust jacket is unevenly faded. The book presents as near fine. Also included is the publisher's 4-page brochure for fine art books for the 1890-91 season. Illustrations by James Callowhill, Sidney Callowhill, Alois Lunzer & F.
