Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. small 8vo., [iv], xiv., 165 pages, enriched with 20 fine elegant engravings, all edges blocked in gilt, bound in contemporary full dark green straight grained morocco, with gilt ruled outer borders,gilt ruled spine in compartments, together with gilt ruled inner borders and gilt decorated leading edges, with occasional light wear to some extremities. Generally a generally handsome VG+ clean tightly bound copy. Ex Libris Charles Taylor Esq. with his contemporary fine engraved bookplate to upper pastedown together with Sigfried Sassoon's fine monogram bookplate to corner of upper pastedown. Also contains a loosely inserted engraved portrait of William Collins at the age of 14 from a separate work. William Collins (1721 1759) was an English poet. Second in influence only to Thomas Gray, he was an important poet of the middle decades of the 18th century. His lyrical odes mark a progression from the Augustan poetry of Alexander Pope's generation and towards the imaginative ideal of the Romantic era.
