The first edition of this natural history work on Harwich and Dovercourt, revised from the original collections of Silas Taylor by Samu…el Dale with notes and observations. Bound in contemporary full panelled calf, with raised bands and a morocco spine label. Bound with the original endpapers and blanks. No half title as issued. Illustrated with fourteen copper plates, four of which are folding. Collated, complete. Taylor"s collections relating to Harwich and Dovercourt discusses the topography, natural history, the towns" lords, municipal, political and civil constitutions and history. The manuscript had been previously made use of by Edmund Gibson for his edition of William Camden"s Britannia, and by Thomas Cox for Magna Britannia. Updated and revised by English naturalist and physician, Samuel Dale, notable for his Pharmacologia seu Manuductio ad Materiam Medicam. Bound in contemporary full panelled calf, with raised bands and a morocco spine label. Externally, the front joint is strained, with a small crack to the head of the rear joint. Rubbing to the extremities. Date inscribed to the tail of the spine. Bookplate of one William Wade Porteous to the front paste down. Internally, front free endpaper is at risk of detaching with further handling, with front blank working loose to the head. Good. Not Stated (illustrator). book.
