FIRST EDITION. THE FIGHT OF THE CENTURY BEING A REVIEW OF THE WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIP CONTEST BETWEEN ROBERT FITZSIMMONS AND JAMES J CORBETT AT CARSON CITY, NEV. MARCH 17TH 1897, W. J. Jefferson Printing & Publishing Co., N.d. (but 1897), first edition, 52 numbered pages, some modest wear and tear and chipping to the somewhat color faded front and rear covers restored by a professional paper conservationist), else a tight vg copy in pictorial wraps as issued with just about fine interior consisting of a pink paper stock text block as issued. A detailed account of the boxers and their boxing history, the Articles of Agreement, pre-fight events and round by round commentary by the referee (Siler) and Houseman. This fight is of course acknowledged as amongst the greatest fights in the recorded history of the sport and was the second ever heavyweight championship fight, Corbett defeating Sullivan 5 years earlier in New Orleans. It was also the first championship fight ever filmed, in this case by the Edison Picture Company and memorialized not only by Corbetts own "long count" accusation, but also by Fitzsimmons famous Solar Plexus Punch which won the match for him in the 14th round. The OCLC reveals only 3 copies while no copies have been reported among the major auction houses in the last 35 years. Among the "Holy Grails" of those collecting important boxing titles.…
