The National Collection would be available on loan for use in government houses such as 10 Downing Street and Her Majesty's embassies abroad to encourage and publicise the work of contemporary British silversmiths. In 1987 The Silver Trust was set up. Following a most generous gift by an anonymous benefactor the trust established a commissioning committee who?se job was to commission British Silversmiths to make pieces which compose the National Collection and which can be seen in this catalogue.* This is a NEAR FINE copy with minor shelf wear.* 1999-01-01. n.
