Ecclésiastique, puis bibliothécaire, enseignant et homme de lettres. - Fils de Dominique Simien, arpenteur royal à Nevers. - Neveu d'un sieur de La Condamine (Charles-Marie de La Condamine ?) qui aurait contribué à son éducation et dont il accole le nom au sien dans ses écrits. - Chanoine de Nesle (Somme) avant la Révolution, puis vicaire épiscopal du Calvados à Bayeux (1790). - Membre de la Société populaire de Bayeux (1793), nommé officiellement bibliothécaire du district de Bayeux en oct. 1793, fonction qu'il exerce en fait dès déc. 1792 et jusqu'en avril 1794. - Abdique la prêtrise et se marie peu après oct. 1793. Sa première fille naît à Bayeux en oct. 1794. - On le retrouve professeur de lettres et de déclamation à Paris, au collège Louis-le-Grand, à partir de 1803. - A notamment publié "Louis XVII", ainsi que de prétendues "Fables" de La Fontaine, pour partie oeuvre d'Antoine Furetière. - Mort peu après le 21 mai 1842 (dernière correspondance figurant à son dossier, cf. Arch. nat., F/17/3143). Serait décédé dans la misère et dans l'oubli.

Devant vivre de sa plume, ce qui ne lui réussissait que médiocrement, l'ancien chanoine Simien Despréaux (vers 1755 - vers 1830) multiplia les productions en toutes sortes de genres, dont l'opportunisme politique n'était pas exclu, comme on le voit dans cette naïve apologie des Bourbons.
