First Edition
Softcover. Condition: vg- to vg. First Polish edition. Octavo. 22, [2]pp. Illustrated tan, black and yellow wrappers with black lettering on the front cover. This work is the Polish language version of the publication known in English as "The Lublin Extermination Camp." This historically important report on the subject of the infamous Majdanek extermination camp near Lublin, was written by the Soviet writer and journalist Konstantin Simonov (1915-1979) who was serving as a war correspondent with the Red Army when it liberated the camp in July of 1944. The report which was among the earliest (if not the earliest) detailed works on the subject, was originally serialized in the Red Army newspaper "Krasnaia zvezda" (Red Star) over three issues in August 1944, and then broadcasted on the radio during three consecutive evenings. Prior to the appearance of Konstantin Simonov's newspaper account, there were some eyewitness accounts by escaped prisoners, such as "The Vrba-Wetzler Report" about Auschwitz, but they were not published in full. The text is illustrated throughout with a total of 12 b/w photogravure images, plus two addition b/w photographic reproductions at the very end, showing the written statement of Lieutenant General Hilmar Moser, who served as Commandant of the camp. Text throughout in Polish. Some rubbing and light chipping to extremities. Covers lightly smudged. Book block tight. Interior including images and text clean throughout, save for a very few instances of small stains to the edges of a few pages. Wrappers in very good-, interior in very good condition overall. Scarce. Alternate name: Obóz Zag?ady In 1944, the Foreign Languages Publishing House in Moscow was known to surprisingly have printed this report in at least 14 foreign languages in addition to the original Russian. Known language variants include English, Polish, German, French, Yiddish, Czech, Romanian, Hungarian, Italian, Spanish, Croatian, Slovenian, Persian and Chinese. Some of these language variants are now extremely scarce. All variants presumably used the same striking front cover image of the chimney of the crematorium and barbed wire fence, printed in yellow and black.

Manuscript / Paper Collectible First Edition
First Polish edition. With 13 photographic illustrations. In publisher's, illustrated wrappers. 22, (2) p. and 4 plates. First Polish edition of Simonov's report on the Red Army's discovery of the Nazi death camp at Majdanek. With 11 reproductions of the famous images, taken after the liberation, of the crematories, the piles of shoes and the partly cremated corps in uncovered mass grave. The Majdanek concentration and extermination camp was established on Heinrich Himmler's order and operated from October 1, 1941, until it was liberated by the Soviet Army on July 22, 1944. It is known to be the best preserved Nazi concentration camp of the Holocaust, as the Germans did not have enough time to destroy the evidences of their crimes, thus "many of the symbols of the Holocaust have their beginning here". Konstantin Simonov (19151979) was a Soviet author and wartime correspondent of the official organ of the Soviet Ministry of Defence "Krasnaya Zvezda" thus the eyewitness and chronicler of the liberation of the Majdanek death camp.
