Douglas Adams will be most fondly remembered for the 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' series and its idiosyncratic humour, but this biography covers his life from his days as a struggling sketch writer to his untimely death at the age of 49 in May 2001. His was an extraordinary life. He started his career as a comedy sketch writer, but then became an overnight success after his 'Hitchhiker' series was first aired by the BBC in 1978. Arthur Dent's adventures through space with his friend Ford Prefect became a popular cultural phenomenon, spawning bestselling novels by Adams, hit television and stage shows and cult status. As well as a bestselling writer, Adams was an avid ecologist and technophile and this book aims to tell the story of this remarkable life and includes interviews and anecdotes from friends and colleagues. The author M. J. Simpson, was kind enough to write to me with some history of this book, he says: 'I thought you'd like to know that what might seem a "mock handwritten notebook page" is in fact a genuine page from the exercise book I used for all my notes while writing this. 30 copies had a page inserted (after redacting personal phone numbers and emails) and were sold by the Hitchhiker's Guide fan club, ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha, at the 2003 British National SciFi Convention (Seacon). I've never seen one come up for resale before. Good find!' Very scarce in this 'Special Edition' with pasted in notes, signed. Jacket photo by Craig Stennett (illustrator). Signed by Author(s).

Foreword by the Minister of the Starbuck United Church (A.M. Simpson) offering a short history of the founding of the Church, as well as a note regarding the compiling of this cook book: "This year, 1949, marks another milestone in the story of progress and advance for the Starbuck congregation. It is the year in which a full-sized concrete basement was put in under the church. The initial impulse, much of the enthusiasm and a great deal of financial aid for this great undertaking came from the Women's Association of the Church. It is in the same spirit of helpfulness that the members and friends of Starbuck United Church Women's Association have compiled this little book of their favorite proven recipes, and, that it will prove a boon to all who use it, is their sincere wish." Extremities rubbed, showing spots, and light creases. Internally, there are various light spots to most pages (unaffecting the legibility of the text), pencil and some ink marks, a few hand-written recipes to the rear "Memo" pages. Overall, good+. Exceedingly scarce in commerce. Remarkably this title was not accounted for in Drivers', Culinary Landmarks. Unrecorded in OCLC. Not in Peel, Guelph, LAC/BAC, University of Manitoba Archives & Special Collections, et al. Rare indeed.
