From the Preface: ".I have endeavoured to present as many styles of treatment and varieties of subject as possible, besides including certain portraits of renown. The book will, therefore, offer many interesting points of study; for many of the selections describe the canvas briefly and dwell at length upon the artist's method of work and his peculiarities of touch and treatment." Book condition: Top edge is gilt; front cover and spine have a art-noveau type design, over half the area in gold--gold and green combination are very attractive; at the top edge of the upper corners are two circa 0.5 inch breaks (on the very top cover edge at the corner). Otherewise book is in nice condition.
