The learned Sir Bateman defines an idiot as "a defective organisation and want of development of the brain, resulting in an inability for the excersise of the inte.llectual, moral and sensitive faculties" . The chapter on The Brain of Idiots attempts to identify physical characteristics of idiots such as p49"three-fifths of idiots have larger heads than men of ordinary intelligence". Interior very clean with no writing, marks or tears. Burgundy cloth covers clean and unscuffed.
