Add to basketLandscape format copperplate engraving, a large near-profile portrait of cormorant standing with wings folded at water's edge; background of sky and clouds above hilly wooded landscape in which a number of buildings and structures. Sheet size 430x590mm. Plate size 305x360mm. Image size 245x310mm. Title, publishing details ("London. Published April 12 1796 by G. Nicol") and names of artist and engraver in lower margin, plate number in margin at upper right-hand corner. Unobtrusive curved crease of length about 50mm in sky area just above subject, and a few small and very minor fox-spots in sky area at upper left. Minor flaws well outside of plate mark:- sheet edges very faintly toned and/or faintly spotted, faint dampstain of height up to 9mm along 35mm of lower edge, upper right-hand corner with crease of length 60mm close to and making acute angle with upper edge, upper left-hand corner with short & light creases and slight loss. A late-18th century engraving of an unusual subject, clean and in VERY GOOD condition.
