A soldier, e…ngineer, and surveyor to the Crown, Slezer travelled widely throughout Scotland recording its castles, palaces, towns, abbeys, bridges, and landscapes, producing a remarkable visual record of the nation in the late seventeenth century. His engravings preserve many buildings and views long since altered or lost, making the work an invaluable source for Scottish history, architecture, and genealogy. This finely produced Heritage Press facsimile, issued in a limited edition of just 500 copies, faithfully recreates the original publication and offers collectors and historians an opportunity to own one of the most important illustrated works relating to Scotland. This modern facsimile was published by Heritage Press (Scotland), Towie Barclay Castle, Aberdeenshire, 1979. Published as a deluxe issue of just 500 numbered copies - this being number 35. Signed by the Publisher, Binder, Printer and Paper supplier to the limitation page at the rear, ahead of the detailed list of Subscribers. A fine, as new, volume which appears to be in unread condition and still retains its original protective cardboard mailing box, along with letter from the Publisher. A folio size volume of substantial proportions. Housed in its maroon slipcase with gilt lion rampant to front. The book with tan leather spine, and burgundy morocco labels with gilt titles. Raised bands to spine and maroon cloth over boards, with the gilt lion rampant to the front. Text is bright and clean throughout with no signs of usage. All soundly bound. A lovely example.
