Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. LETTERS OF ALDOUS HUXLEY EDITED BY GROVER SMITH 1969 LARGE HARD COVER DJ MYLAR. Quoting from the flap of the dust jacket: These letters, which begin in 1899 and end in 1963, provide a feast of pleasures not least, an insider s view of a half-century of intellectual life in England, on the Continent, and extensively in the United States. Here is social history: the uniquely free university bred upper-middle and upper-class English world; the social and cultural upheaval of the twenties; and expatriate life in Italy, France, and HollywoodThe themes are no less various: music, literature, zoology, psychology, medicine, painting, movies, theatre, and mystical religions subjects on which he writes with ease, often with passion, never without humanity. I am therefore very pleased to be able to offer: Letters of Aldous Huxley edited by Grover Smith. This large hard cover book (6 ¾ x 9 ¾ x 2 ¼ inches, 991 pages) was published by Harper & Row of New York dated 1969 and the First U.S. Edition (so stated). This book is bound in slate gray cloth boards with silver gilt titles on the spine; it is protected by a printed paper dust jacket, itself encased in a mylar sheath. The only illustration is a frontispiece portrait of Aldous Huxley. Condition: This book is in near fine condition. The dust jacket shows some very faint edge wear which is now being controlled by the mylar sheath. The hard covers are clean and bright but the silver gilt titles on the spine seem a bit muted. Inside the book is unmarked and the pages are bright and clean throughout without any toning or foxing. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
