Blind-Stamped Cloth. Condition: Very Good. From the Twenty-second London edition, carefully revised, with an original preface and notes by the authors. This book was a parody of leading contemporary poets written on the occasion fo the reopening of the Drury Lane Theatre in 1812. The book was extremely popular in England, going through 19 editions. In 1840, Fields, then a clerk at the Old Corner, prompted Ticknor, to publish a second American editon. The first had been published by James Eastburn of New York in 1813. The edition of 1000 sold out in a little over a year, prompting Ticknor to issue another edition of 1,500 copies in 1841. Ten years later they brought out this third Ticknor editon (fourth American) of 2,000 copies. Ref.: Pye, 16. Bookplate of Joseph Chadwick, Cohoes on front pastedown. Signature and embossed logo of Chadwick and embossed booksellers ticket of Wm. H. Young, Troy on FFEP [Loc.19].
