Written by Augustus Jessopp, an English cleric and writer. Peterborough, c1881. Written by George Ayliffe Poole, an English Anglican cleric and a writer on religion, church architecture and history who strongly advocated the Gothic Revival. Worcester, 1883. Written by Rev. I. Gregory Smith, a British clergyman and writer. With the publisher's catalogue to the rear of each volume. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spines with the odd mark to the cloth. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine resulting in light fraying. Residue from library stickers to the tail of the spines of Norwich and Worcester. Hinges starting but firm to Peterborough volume. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting. Light age toning to the endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown of Peterborough. Good. Not Stated (illustrator). book.

Phipps Onslow M.A. Published by The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge in 1883. A First Edition. Size: 4 1/2 x 6 3/4 inches. Page number: 367 with several pages of advertisements at the rear. Hardcover. Dark… blue cloth embossed with black and gilt. The Society For Promoting Christian Knowledge is the oldest Anglican mission organization. It was established by Rev. Dr. Thomas Bray in1698 and apart from Oxford and Cambridge is the oldest publishing house and organization in England. From the 1830's it embarked on the publication and distribution of general religious histories of the Anglican church and this The Diocesan History of Worcester is one of them. Condition: Very Good. The boards are clean, the corners only a very little bumped, the top and bottom of the spine showing onlya little wear. The text block is tight and clean but for a little foxing throughout, particularly at the edges of the pages. The fold out map, 'The Annals of Worcester, that faces the title page is present and intact. The front end paper is a little cracked. It has the previous owners name written on it; also 'Xmas 1883'. In the corner there is a book sellers sticker. The rear end paper is also cracked but to a lesser degree.
