Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book proposes a theory that the Iliad of Homer was originally composed in sections of 300 verses, to assist the memory of the ancient poets (called rhapsodes) who performed the work. The author demonstrates by careful analysis of the Iliad's structure that interpolated passages ap…pear to disrupt the 300-verse format and contain internal evidence such as repetitions and inconsistencies that suggest they were additions to the original text. The author also proposes that these interpolated passages often include folktales or legends not directly relevant to the main narrative. By removing these interpolated passages, the author argues that we can restore the Iliad to its original form, a work comprised of 45 sections of 300 verses with major divisions after 18 and 30 sections. The author contends that this discovery has significant implications for our understanding of the poem's composition, its transmission through oral tradition, and the role of interpolation in the development of ancient Greek literature. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Add to basketHard Cover. Condition: Good. First Edition Thus. 1968 reprint and facsimile by Unarius - Science of Life, of Glendale, California. First part of volume originally published in 1899 by J. R. Francis for Alexander Smyth. Following this is The Crucifixion By An Eyewitness, which is account in form of letter originally sent from Jer…usalm to Alexandria in the first century. Present in form of a facsimile of the 1919 edition published by The Austin Publishing Co. of Los Angeles. Includes a new note and foreword, etc. for this edition. Frontis portrait of Jesus of Nazareth adjacent copyright page. Orange buckram (cloth) boards, black cover and spine titles, light shelf wear. Pages generally near fine. Each vision or chapter features a vignette illustration introducing the material. Few stamps inside cover, copyright, and exterior text block for Seminex Library of Saint Louis, Missouri and The Libary of the Seminary of the Southwest Austin, Texas. Bind fine, square; hinges intact. Near very good volume of intriguing material. Full title: "The Occult Life of Jesus of Nazareth, Embracing His Parentage, His Youth, His Original Doctrines and Works, His Career as a Public Teacher and Physician of the People- The Nature of the Great Conspiracy Against Him- All the Incidents of His Tragical Death, Given on Spiritual Authority, from Spirits Who Were Contemporary Mortals with Jesus While on the Earth, Given through the Mediumship of Alexander Smyth. Revised and Corrected Edition." At back of volume is reprinted The Crucifixion and the Resurrection of Jesus, by an Eye-Witness; also called The Gospel of Nicodemus. This scarce story of a little known or discussed piece of correspondence apparently conveying a first-hand account from a friend and witness to Jesus' crucifixion and surrounding events. This is a purported letter, written seven years after the crucifixion, by a personal friend of Jesus in Jerusalem. To an Esseer (Esseen or Essene) Brother in Alexandria. This facsimile of 1919 edition features much explanatory text not present in 1907 edition of same letter. After nearly being lost to a Jesuit on the scene in Egypt, and then later a Latin translation held in a German lodge, the letter was rediscovered and now translated into English. This volume offers an English translation of the manuscript originally discovered in Alexandria. It is an ancient letter from a personal friend of Jesus written from Jerusalem to friends in Alexandria, telling the strange, simple and impressive story, of his crucifixion, removal from the cross, his resuscitation and subsequent death, as the events were witnessed. 325 pages and 94 additional pages for reprint of 1919 The Crucifixion title. Insured post. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" Tall.
