Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Revised, single-volume edition, 516 pages, index, countless b + w photographs, small illustrations; a few in color. Appears to be organized by section, district of toy production. Older book is solid with some normal wear from age; some age-toning to the pages, mild reading wear. Some fading to the cloth (satin-like) binding; some discoloration, rubbing, few scratches. While the jacket is bright in protective mylar sleeve, it is in about 'good plus' condition with several tears, chips along edges -- some tape-repaired -- and creasing along inside flap. The binding is solid, but is still an older, slightly fragile book. Very nice. ct.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 158 pages, chiefly illustrations (some color). Somewhat shelfworn. Book and dust jacket are both very good. Slipcase is sound but is worn, rubbed, and unevenly sun-faded at edges. Nihon no Tako (1970), by Yusaku Tawara with photographs by Kiyoshi Sonobe, is part of the postwar movement to document regional Japanese folk crafts, including kite-making traditions that were increasingly threatened by urbanization and industrialized toys. Scholars such as Cecile Laly cite the book as a valuable primary source for understanding regional kite forms and techniques, situating it within the broader mingei-influenced effort of the 1960s-70s to record and preserve traditional crafts. See Laly, Cecile. TAKO - Cerfs-volants japonais traditionnels: La collection du musee du quai Branly. Research Note, 2014; Laly, Cecile. "Nihon no tako (Les cerfs-volants du Japon)." 124 Revue, November 2013. Kiyoshi Sonobe (illustrator).
