First edition, thus, of this exceedingly scarce GSFC TV video used for exhibit purposes of the final free flight test No. 5 for the Space Shuttle Enterprise Oct. 26, 1977. There were actually 16 tests in all, including original Taxi Tests while attached to the SCA, Captive-Inert Flight Tests, and then the final 8 tests which included astronaut crews. This final free flight featured Commander Fred Haise, and Pilot C. Gordon Fullerton, and was the final of two flights which featured the Enterprise without the attached tail cone removed so it flew and landed in its operational configuration with dummy main engines, and OMS pods. Enterprise was built originally without engines or heat shield, so it was actually first displayed at the Kennedy Space Center, tested in launch configuration, and would later tour France, West Germany, Italy, the Uk, and Canada, even the Louisiana World Exposition in 1984. Although originally intended to be retrofitted for flight after the first operational orbiter Columbia, so many design changes had taken place, retrofitting was cost prohibitive. Contact seller5-star sellerNASA Space Shuttle Program scrapbook, circa 1982 to 1984, documenting the agency's educational outreach during the first years of America's reusable spacecraft program. Compiled during the early Space Shuttle missions, the album preserves NASA publications, certificates associated with Johnson Space Center educational activities, and actual samples of aerospace insulation used in solid rocket booster construction. The materials are associated with Bettye Peterson, who attended a NASA aerospace education workshop in June 1982, and Erik Peterson, whose November 1982 certificate records attendance at a Space Shuttle crew equipment display. Scrapbook with mounted NASA publications, certificates, handwritten notes, and several original material samples, circa 1982-1984. The cover bears a hand-drawn Space Shuttle illustration, while the interior contains a handwritten flight chronology, NASA Facts publications including "Food for Space Flight" and "The Shuttle Era," "History of Manned Space Flight," and a 1977 technical article titled "Space Shuttle Food System" by Charles T. Bourland, Rita M. Rapp, and Malcolm C. Smith Jr. Particularly interesting are several fabric and insulation samples supplied by ILC Space Systems, including Astroquartz, fiberglass, and Fiberfrax materials identified as components of the high-temperature insulation protecting solid rocket booster structures during launch. Accompanying manufacturer labels describe their composition and resistance to temperatures approaching 2,000°F. Also present is a white glove identified in manuscript as worn by personnel involved in loading and unloading the Shuttle. A June 1982 NASA Teacher Education Workshop certificate issued to Bettye Peterson bears the names of NASA education officials William D. Nixon and James D. Poindexter, while a November 1982 certificate issued to Erik Peterson documents attendance at a NASA Crew Systems Division display organized in association with Martin Marietta Denver Aerospace. The scrapbook dates to the transition from the Shuttle's first orbital test flights, beginning with Columbia in April 1981, to its early operational missions carrying satellites and scientific experiments. NASA's educational initiatives introduced teachers and students to the engineering, equipment, food systems, and operational procedures of human spaceflight. The surviving materials reflect these efforts through technical publications and physical examples of aerospace manufacturing. The album is incomplete, with numerous pages showing residual adhesive, staining, and paper tears where photographs and other contents have been removed. General age-related wear and toning throughout. Overall fair condition. A surviving collection of NASA educational ephemera and Shuttle engineering samples from the program's formative years.…
