SPANOVV. MED. DOCT."; in der Brüstung mittig Wappenschild mit Helmzier. Oben Nischenbogen mit seitlich angesetzten Konsolen. In der Platte unten links signiert "J. Kleinhard del. 1772", unten rechts "J. K. Balzer sc. exc. Pragae" Repräsentatives Ärzte- und Gelehrtenporträt als Einzelblatt, vermutlich Teil einer Serie medizinischer Porträts, für Sammler- und Albumzwecke sowie zur biographischen Illustration in gelehrten Kreisen bestimmt. Span von Spanau ist als Halbfigur in einer steinernen Ädikulanische dargestellt, die ihn wie eine Grab- oder Ehrennische rahmt und seinen Rang als Gelehrter betont. Der reich verzierte Wams mit Knopfleiste und das übergeworfene Tuch erinnern an frühbarocke Gelehrtenmode und geben der Figur eine historisierende Würde, während die ruhig auf der Brüstung gefalteten Hände Gelehrsamkeit und Besonnenheit signalisieren. Das Wappenmedaillon in der Mitte der Brüstung verweist auf adelige Herkunft bzw.
