Paperback. Condition: new. Emerson, Hunt; Spelling, John; Pasion, Adam (illustrator). Paperback. Named one of Rough Trades Best Books of 2013According to Gandhi, the Four Stages of Protest are as follows: First they ignore you. Then they ridicule you. Then they fight you. Then you win!In Fight the Power!, comics authors Sean Michael Wilson and Benjamin Dickson team up with illustrators Hunt Emerson, John Spelling, and Adam Pasion to show how this process has been played out again and again throughout history--and has slowly but surely led to hard-won rights for the people along the way. Focusing on the English-speaking nations, Wilson and Dickson chronicle the struggles of the Luddites and Swing Riots in the early 1800s, through the Irish Rebellions that lasted through 1922; from the suffragettes in 1918 to Rosa Parks and the bus boycott of the mid-1950s; from the trial of Nelson Mandela to the Occupy movement that has only just begun. By illuminating the variety of protests--and the valuable connections among them--through an accessible art form, Fight the Power! shows that there is a point to the struggle, fight by fight, win by win. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

paperback. Condition: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

It seems a proper contribution on one of our open questions. | I wish a larger proportion of our leading names appeared among the contributors to the 'Reformer'. | Ther are many men who never write unless they are asked . and some who will only write if they are told that a contribution on some particular subject will be acceptable from them. . if I might suggest your applying a gentle editorial pressure upon them. I fancy too by what I hear from various quarters that a larger proportion of lively articles are desiderated. | I have begun something upon 'poor letter H.'".

Manuscript / Paper Collectible Signed
A small archive of correspondence between Buck Houghton and various production companies and individuals regarding Houghton's screenplay for an unproduced film, "Heat and Serve," 1994-1998, including typed letters signed from Robert Altman [initialed], Mike Stevens and Penny Marshall, Jane Rosenthal, and Andrea McCall. Correspondence frequently containing brief personal anecdotes, personal outreach, and reminiscence of previous times working together. Archible Ernest "Buck" Houghton was a television producer and screenwriter best known for producing the first three seasons of "The Twilight Zone" (1960-1962). Houghton began his career in the 1930s as a reader and story editor for David O. Selznick before working in casting and the budget department at Paramount, then as a story editor for MGM, and soon became involved in producing early television dramas such as "China Smith" (1952-53), "Yancy Derringer" (1958-59), and "Man with a Camera" (1958-1959). The archive of 29 documents includes: 13 Xerographic copies of letters from Houghton (including two signed copies), two carbon typescript copies of letters from Houghton, and one typed letter signed from Houghton stamped "Received / Sep 11 1997 / Aaron Spelling," all dating from May 6, 1996 to April 10, 1998, pitching the screenplay or in response to previous correspondence to: Don Laventhall (Pakula Productions), Mike Stevens (Parkway Productions), Jane Rosenthal (Tribeca Enterprises), Griffin Dunne, Aaron Spelling (Spelling Television), Robert Altman (Sandcastle 5 Productions), and John Frankenheimer and Evans Evans, as well as as Houghton's agent Lew Weitzman (Preferred Artists), and three unidentified industry individuals "Fred," "Ed," and "John." Six typed letters signed responding to Houghton from: Jess Siegler (Pakula Productions), Mike Stevens and Penny Marshall (Parkway Productions), Jane Rosenthal (Tribeca Enterprises), Stephanie Barbuto (Spelling Television), Robert Altman [initialed] (Sandcastle 5 Productions), and Andrea McCall (Dreamworks). Also included are seven pages of material relating to the script including a Xerographic duplication of a two-page synopsis of the story, two pages of hand-drawn and paste-up graphic depictions of the screenplay's characters and their interrelationships, and three pages of proposed actors for each of the script's six lead roles in Houghton's hand. The script by Houghton discussed in the correspondence found here, "Heat and Serve" (also referred in the correspondence as "Change Partners and Dance" and "We'll Meet Again") is about three couples who meet by accident in a crowded New York hotel bar and change partners for the evening. Another unproduced script "The Girl from Des Moines" is also mentioned in a couple of the correspondences. All material 8.5 x 11 inches, with many groupings side-stitched with a single staple. Near Fine overall.
