Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Book is clean with a square, tight binding and bright, white pages. Dust jacket has minor wear on the edges that is difficult to see in the scans. Albuquerque's Lovelace Medical Center is one of the leading clinic-foundation complexes in the United States, a peer of such other well. known institutions as the Mayo Clinic-Foundation and the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans. Lovelace is also a stalwart health care institution in the Southwest; and to mark its sixty-fifth year of service in 1987, this volume offers an objective appraisal of the hospital, the people behind its success, and the changes in medical practice in the twentieth century that have impacted Lovelace. In 1922 two young doctors William Randolph Lovelace I and Edgar T. Lassetter- -who had come to New Mexico to cure their tuberculosis and then met in Albuquerque, founded what later would become known as the Lovelace Clinic, which was based on the group-practice model of the Mayo Clinic. The Lovelace Clinic quickly became a leader in America's group-practice medical movement, though not without considerable professional resistance to its development. In 1946 Dr. Lovelace's charismatic nephew Randy William Randolph Lovelace II- returned to Albuquerque after a decade of work at the Mayo Clinic.
